Moodle Plugin Configuration
Section titled “Moodle Plugin Configuration”This guide covers configuring the BigBlueButton plugin in Moodle to connect to SoftSysVideo.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- You have a SoftSysVideo account at app.softsysvideo.com
- You have your Server URL and Shared Secret from the SoftSysVideo dashboard (Settings → Integration)
- The
mod_bigbluebuttonbnplugin is installed in Moodle
Step-by-step setup
Section titled “Step-by-step setup”-
Log in to Moodle as administrator
You need site-administrator privileges to access plugin settings.

Navigate to BigBlueButton settings
Go to: Site administration → Plugins → Activity modules → BigBlueButton

Or search for “BigBlueButton” in the site administration search bar.

Enter the Server URL

In the BigBlueButton server URL field, enter your SoftSysVideo API URL. You’ll find your unique URL in the dashboard under Settings → Integration. It looks like:

Enter the Shared Secret
In the Shared secret field, paste the shared secret from your SoftSysVideo dashboard.
To find it:
- Log in to app.softsysvideo.com
- Go to Settings → Integration
- Copy the Shared Secret value

Save and test the connection
Click Save changes.
The plugin will attempt to connect to SoftSysVideo. If successful, you will see a green confirmation message.
If you see a connection error, double-check:
- The URL has a trailing slash
- You copied the shared secret without extra spaces
- Your Moodle server can reach your
api-xxxxxxxx.softsysvideo.xyzendpoint over HTTPS
Verifying the connection
Section titled “Verifying the connection”After saving, you can verify the connection by:
- Going to any course
- Adding a BigBlueButton activity
- Opening the activity — it should show the meeting as “Not started”
- Clicking Join session — you should be taken to the SoftSysVideo meeting room
Optional plugin settings
Section titled “Optional plugin settings”The BigBlueButton plugin has additional settings you can configure per your needs:

| Enable recording | Enable if you want Moodle activities to support recordings |
| Default maximum participants | Set based on your typical class size |
| Welcome message | Customize the default message participants see when joining |
